The lobby of Mont Tremblant’s Hotel Quintessence offers a portal to Lac Tremblant and its surrounding forest.

Believe me or not, there are times when my position as a travel editor is not all wellness and fine wine, though I’ll admit this moment is not one of them.

On assignment in Mont Tremblant, Quebec, I am ensconced in Hotel Quintessence, a boutique hotel on the edge of Lac Tremblant with the resort’s slopes only steps away. Of course, I would not know the great trembling mountain is within shouting distance, as this hotel is shrouded so entirely by trees and rock. My writing desk today offers a view of green pine and yellow maple, with the black lake and a little wooden bridge on a winding path below.

I am here to review the wellness aspects of Hotel Q for SNOW Magazine—the results of which you’ll read, I hope, in our High Season 2013-14 (December) edition. I won’t reveal the story’s secrets now, but I’m more than willing to share my views with you through a series of photos I’ve just shot—of pine, and stone, and stained glass, and wrought iron, and floor-to-ceiling stone fireplaces, all of which warm the soul on this cold, snowy October forest.

Farewell Glasgow…

I’ve been visiting Scotland for the past week, taking in the sights of Glasgow, wandering through museums, exploring castles.

My Toronto Sun assignment has been to preview the Commonwealth Games, taking place in this fair city one year from now, in late July, 2014.

Here I am in the Velodrome, one of Glasgow’s sporty new additions in time for the 2014 Games.

And here’s a rainbow photo of the bonny Loch Lomand, taken from the banks of Cameron House, situated less than an hour from downtown the Games sight in Glasgow:

I will write more memories of Glasgow in the coming days, and in upcoming features in the travel section of the Toronto Sun. For now, I need to catch my plane for Toronto.

Farewell for now… Glasgow.

With the Tall Ships sailing Ontario’s lakes through the month of June, it’s a perfect time for a preview.

SeaWorld Antarctica

SeaWorld Orlando’s Cool New Penguin Attraction: Antarctica

After more than two years planning and preparing, SeaWorld Orlando finally debuted Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin on May 24 — a super-cool new ride and habitat for 200-plus penguins that resembles the Southern Hemisphere’s Continent of Antarctica, including icebergs, high winds and snow caps.

It’s Orlando’s coldest theme park attraction to date…. to read my review, please see my Family Fare piece in the Toronto Sun’s travel section, or visit the Family section of my website, LoriKnowles.com.
